Semantics

I think I lied in church, but since it was my own understanding at the time, it can't really be a lie, can it? Pastor Guy asked the question who came to know God as a result of us pursuing Him, and I raised my hand, along with a few other people. When I really started my journey to the Lord 5 and 1/2 years ago, I was seriously searching for something. As I cried out in frustration, "I can't do this by myself anymore" and clearly heard, "You don't have to" I know it was God calling me to come to Him. But, since He had been waiting for that day longer than I can fathom, does it mean He showed up because I pursued Him? Or did He speak up because I finally noticed Him standing there? Are we really pursuing Someone who has been there all along? This question has been rolling around in my mind since Sunday.

  1. Hey Deb--I think you are on to something here. I believe He is seeking us from the second we are born--no, make that the second we are conceived! He is right in front of our face--but we have spiritual blinders on.

And no--that is not a lie--just a new understanding! See ya!

  2. Hon, I totally don't believe it is a lie. God created us with an "empty space" that could only be filled with Him. It's like trying to shove puzzle pieces in a puzzle that clearly don't fit. In the case of life, those pieces which don't fit are drugs, alcohol, food, sex, people, things, etc. So when people are pursuing to fill that "spot" with the above things, they are actually seeking Him without realization of it. Look at people in your life who turn to everything but God. YOU know they are lost, YOU know what they need, and YOU know WHO can help them, because You know that what they need is God. DOes that make sense?

I heard someone say once, that Jesus knocks on the door of our hearts, but He won't intrude His way inside. It's up to us to reach down to the doorknob of that door and open it up. Therefore, is the doorknob on the inside of the door or the outside.

So, yes, God pursued you, but you pursued Him by opening the door which He was knocking at. The other worldly "doors" you were opening were not enough, because you cried out, and said, "I can't do this by myself anymore!"

Isn't the love of God SOOOOO amazing that while we were "sinners" and not wanting anything to do with Him, that He STILL stood by that door and knocked and knocked and knocked until we opened. You are just getting a little revelation of how much your Heavenly Father loves you! Yeah!!!

As far as my post goes, I'm o-kay, God is good, and yes, that tree looks awful depressing:) LOL The wonderful thing is that after I wrote that, I was able to focus back on Him, and I chose to cast my burdens on He who is big enough to handle them. (Plus I felt 10x better). Thanks for caring. Love ya girl and sorry for taking up so much space. :(

  3. Also, what you wrote about on my comments REALLY encouraged me. I needed to hear that. Praise God for the "Spring" in our spiritual life.

  4. Your question, whether you know it or not, is the age-old question of God's sovereignty versus man's free-will. Another way of packaging your question: Calvinism versus Arminianism. Typically those two "camps" of thought are set up as polar opposites, but there is an alternative way to look at it... I'll let you figure it out though - that's half the fun!
